How Do I Set Up a Shopify Store with Doba?
Learn how to set up a Shopify store manually or with Doba Pilot, connect Shopify to Doba, and start adding dropshipping products to your store.
Shopify is one of the easiest ecommerce platforms to use when launching an online store. The account setup process only takes a few minutes, and you do not need coding or design experience to get started.
There are two main ways to create a Shopify store and connect it with Doba:
- Set up your Shopify store manually through Shopify.
- Use Doba Pilot to guide you through the Shopify setup and product listing process.
This article explains both options so you can choose the setup path that works best for you.
What is Doba Pilot?
Doba Pilot is Doba’s AI assistant for dropshipping. It helps guide you through common tasks in Doba, including connecting your store, sourcing products, and listing items.
Instead of searching through menus or help documentation, you can type what you need into Doba Pilot or select one of the available prompts. Doba Pilot will then provide step-by-step guidance based on your goal.
What do I need to open a Shopify store?
To open a Shopify store, you will generally need:
- An email address
- An idea of what you want to sell
- A payment method
Shopify provides the store-building tools, themes, and basic setup flow. You can start with a simple store and customize it further as your business grows.
Option 1: Set up a Shopify store manually
You can create a Shopify store directly through Shopify by following Shopify’s standard setup process.
Step 1: Start your Shopify free trial
Go to Shopify and select Start free trial.
New Shopify stores typically begin with a short free trial. Shopify may also offer introductory pricing after the trial period, depending on the current promotion available when you sign up.
Step 2: Create your Shopify account
Enter your email address or sign in using an available account option, such as Google, Apple, or Facebook.
Shopify will begin creating your store while you answer a few setup questions.
Step 3: Answer or skip Shopify’s setup questions
Shopify may ask questions about what you plan to sell and where your business is located.
These questions help Shopify customize your dashboard, but you can skip them and update your settings later.
Step 4: Choose a Shopify plan
From your Shopify dashboard, select a plan.
For many new sellers, the Basic plan is a good starting point. You can upgrade later as your store grows or your order volume increases.
Step 5: Choose and customize a theme
Go to Online Store > Themes in Shopify.
A free theme, such as Dawn, can be a good starting point for new stores. Select Customize to update your store’s colors, logo, homepage sections, and layout.
No coding is required for basic theme customization.
Step 6: Add products to your store
To add products manually, create a product listing that includes:
- A clear product title
- A product description
- Product images
- Pricing
- Inventory settings
If you are dropshipping, you can also use an app or integration to import products instead of creating each listing by hand.
As your catalog grows, consider organizing products into collections so shoppers can browse by category, product type, price range, or season.
Step 7: Set up payments and shipping
Connect a payment provider so customers can complete checkout.
Then configure your shipping settings based on how your orders will be fulfilled. If you are dropshipping, make sure your shipping rates and delivery expectations align with your suppliers and fulfillment process.
Step 8: Create key store pages
Before launching, create the basic pages customers expect to see, such as:
- About page
- Contact page
- Shipping policy
- Return policy
- Privacy policy
These pages help build trust with shoppers.
After creating pages, remember to add them to your store navigation. New pages may not appear in your store menu automatically.
To add pages to your menu, go to Online Store > Navigation in Shopify.
Is Shopify easy to set up for beginners?
Yes. A basic Shopify store can be created in a short amount of time, even if you do not have technical experience.
Most of the work comes after the account is created. You will need to choose your store design, write product descriptions, add products, configure payments and shipping, and prepare your store for customers.
